Martin Luther King Jr Drum Major award to the Committee of Six

The U.S Ambassador to Tanzania Alfonso E. Lenhardt delivering his remarks before conferring the 2011 Dr. Martin Luther King Drum Major for Justice Award to the Committee of Six of the Zanzibar House of Representatives in recognition of its role in helping establish the Government of National Unity in Zanzibar and making 2010 the year of Zanzibar's reconciliation. The award ceremony was held on February 28, 2011 at the U.S. Embassy in Dar es Salaam.
The U.S Ambassador to Tanzania Alfonso E. Lenhardt (right) receiving a copy of the amended constitution of Zanzibar from the Hon. Ali Mzee Ali of the Committee of Six of the House of Representatives. The amended constitution which laid a legal framework for the formulation of the Government of National Unit in Zanzibar resulted from a referendum by the people of Zanzibar. Ambassador Lenhardt conferred upon the Committee of Six the 2011 Dr. Martin Luther King Award in recognition of the vital role in played in the Zanzibar reconciliation.
