The
Head of Civil Service and Secretary to the Cabinet Francis Muthaura has
termed the ICC ruling Monday as a disappointment and said he intends to
appeal against the decision. In a statement issued accompanied by his
Lawyer Karim Khan, Muthaura reiterated that he was innocent of the
charges leveled against him at the ICC.
Muthaura
said in the statement that he is still innocent until proved guilty by
the court. He expressed optimism that justice will eventually prevail
and clear him of the charges. Muthaura congratulated the two suspects
Henry Kosgey and Major General Mohamed Hussein Ali whose charges were
not confirmed and wished all the best, the other three suspects whose
cases have been confirmed. Speaking before Muthaura made his statement,
the lawyer Karim Khan maintained that nothing had changed in the ruling.
He added that his client was still innocent and wondered why the case
was confirmed yet they had proved their case during confirmation
hearing. Khan noted that the ICC cases had polarized the country along
political and ethnic lines. Equating the ruling to half time in
football, the lawyer said no one should start celebrating yet but wait
until the last minute when justice is delivered.
