Though they tried to keep a low profile during their Hawaii respite, the Obamas were sure to bring in the New Year like Hollywood superstars instead of Washington heavyweights. The first couple gathered some friends and took over the private room in the Nobu restaurant in
Wakiki on New Year's Day in an effort to toast 2011 off in style. Reports surfaced that while they were trying to keep a low profile in the celebrity hotspot by taking 10 of their friends to dinner in the private room of the restaurant, a meal that is believed to cost several thousand dollars.

'They came without their daughters for a quiet dinner with friends. It was supposed to be low-key but a huge crowd gathered outside,' a source told Page Six of The New York Post.
They were said to have dined on some of the restaurant's signature dishes, and considering the high price point, Mr Obama must have thrown his principles of personal financial responsibility to the wind for the evening.
The restaurant's finest delicacies, cooked to perfection by expert chefs, come with a price tag to match: the inaniwa udon noodle and lobster salad starter is $28, the scallop with wasabi pepper sauce is $36, and the lobster salad with spicy lemon dressing is a whopper at $48.
After their decadent night out on the town- when they left the girls at home so they could have an evening of adults- they surely spent Monday gathering there things and saying goodbye to family, as the arrived back in Washington little more than a day later. Read more>>
