Transcendental Meditation allows the mind and body to experience a state of deep relaxation and rest. It brings balance to the mind and body. It releases built up stress and allows the body to rejuvenate, revitalize and heal. The meditation involves allowing the mind and body to experience a state of deep rest whilst staying completely aware and alert. This article discusses transcendental meditation techniques and how to a achieve a silent mind.
When we meditate, our minds are naturally drawn inwards and we become aware of our thought processes. The more we sit quietly observing our thoughts; we notice that these thoughts become less intrusive and slow down to a point where there are no thoughts at all. To reach this state in meditation requires persistent practice. When you reach the point of no thoughts, you truly experience pure consciousness and that of the pure self. The body and mind are completely relaxed yet we are totally aware. Pure consciousness is the state experienced between thoughts.

Entering this state of consciousness allows access to vast energy resources. The energy boost which we receive from transcendental mediation is responsible for reducing our stress levels, increasing happiness and creativity, improving our current states of health, reducing fatigue, increasing concentration and allows us to experience more love and joy in our lives.
The aim of Transcendental Meditation is to silence the mind allowing us to experience deep states of inner peace. It is a very simple meditation process to follow and has no religious background. This meditation is solely about consciousness.
The method for practicing Transcendental Meditation is as follows.
  • Sit comfortably in a chair or cross legged on the floor.
  • Ensure that your back is straight
  • Close your eyes and take three long inhalations and exhalations to relax.
  • Continues to breathe slowly and deeply, focus your mind on your respirations.
  • Once you are feeling a little relaxed, observe your thoughts. You will notice that your mind may jump from one thought to the next. Just allow this to happen for awhile. Observe your minds processes.
  • Now take one thought that you are having and try to focus solely on that thought. Every time your mind wanders to another thought, make a conscious effort to draw your mind back to the initial thought. Throw out any new thoughts as they occur. This takes practice but is achievable.
  • Once you have mastered focusing on just one thought for extended time periods, you will notice that all thoughts will disappear and it is in this state you will experience pure consciousness and deep relaxation of body and mind.
By practicing transcendental meditation you will learn how to allow or reject thoughts from your mind as they appear. It is a natural process and the goal is to experience the completely silent mind. With time you will attain the power to control your thoughts. Meditation requires daily practice to achieve results. Don’t feel disappointed if you can’t silence your mind straight away. It takes determined practice to learn to dissolve bad habits and learn new ones.
