World Speakers and Presiding Officers from commonwealth Countries has said parliamentary diplomacy is an essential in framing any country's foreign policy because international ties were no longer confined to traditional diplomacy.
Discussing during the 21st conference of speakers and presiding officers of Commonwealth in the capital of Trinidad and Tobago, Port of Spain, Speakers of the commonwealth countries said parliaments have a "pivotal role" to play in foreign policy.
"International commitments have increased involvement of parliaments. International relations are no longer confined to traditional diplomacy. Parliamentarians are expected to have broader understanding of global concerns," She Commends the presenter of the topic, speaker from Indian Lok Sabha Hon. Meira Kumar
She said parliaments with a mandate of overseeing executive accountability could ensure people's concern in the matter of foreign affairs through various devices.
Commonwealth speakers said, National and international policies have a bearing on interconnections between globalization and daily lives. Regular contacts and effective linkages amongst the parliaments of the world is an extremely effective and dynamic channel for lasting goodwill and understanding amongst nations.
These discussion took place during the workshop titled "The role of Parliamentary Diplomacy in the era of globalization", whereby majority concurred with the presenter of the topic Hon that Meira Kumar, that, parliamentary diplomacy "encourages a consensual approach to resolve contentious issues".
The Speaker of the National Assembly Hon. Anne Makinda attends this conference and she strongly encouraged the world government to collaborate with the foreign affairs parliamentary committees on matters patterning to foreign policy and diplomacy as they affect majority and parliament represents people.
The conference is scheduled to continue tomorrow with an excursion tour of the two island of Trinidad and Tobago for delegates of the conference from commonwealth countries.
