Rapper The Game this week released his new mixtape ‘Purp and Patron‘. Hosted by Funkmaster Flex and DJ Skee, the set features collaborations with a number acts including T-Pain, Pharrell Williams, Snoop Dogg, and Ashanti. The latter features on the Dr Dre produced ‘Soft Rhodes’, which many have been anticipating since images of the trio in the studio made the rounds on the net last year.
Is the song any good, though? Take a listen after the jump…
Given the names attached to the track, I anticipated something with more ‘umph’.
Instead, Game raps tired subjected matter over the solid production (diluting its quality in the process). While Ashanti sounded no better than a random hook singer. Sad, as she actually stepped up her vocal game in this her period of commercial decline. Unfortunately, it appears producers, much like the public at large, just aren’t interested in any such strides."
